This grape is a very old variety, older than Cabernet Sauvignon and most famous as a blending grape in Bordeaux, France. Never a main grape in that cool region because it ripens very late. Hence the name "Little Green One"But... Here in California and specifically Lodi, we are not cool (climatically anyway). Our warm weather ripens the grapes just fine and makes a Petit Verdot with flavors of ripe plum, blackberry and leather with a hint of green tobacco leaf. Full bodied and rich but with nice acidity that keeps the wine light on it's feet and worthy of being a single varietal wine.
