When you visit Acheson Wine Co. at 19th and Q St, you are visiting a real winery and real tasting room. We make the wines locally and sell them in re-usable flip top 1 Liter bottles.  Both our wine making and delivery method is completely sustainable!  We have eliminated all excess waste from the normal winery concept.

Were not a wine bar, we are a winery. You’re buying wine direct from the folks that make it.

CAN I BRING IN MY OWN EMPTY BOTTLE TO FILL WITH YOUR WINES?

Sorry, but no. According to US Liquor Law, all wines must leave our Tasting Room in an Acheson Labeled bottle. We are super sticklers for obeying US Liquor Law so if this makes you mad or frustrated, please call your Congressman or run for office. If we can get the law changed, we will be even more environmentally friendly!

SHOULD I RUN MY ACHESON BOTTLE THROUGH THE DISHWASHER?

We suggest that you don’t. Simply rinse with water and bring back into the Tasting Room. We have a professional machine that is designed for the beverage industry which we will put your bottle through prior to re-filling. Only takes 90 seconds and is much more effective than your home dishwasher. If you don’t have 90 seconds, we are happy to exchange your bottle for a new one.

DO YOU DELIVER?

YES!! We deliver within a 5 mile radius of the Tasting Room now and have plans to expand this as we grow. All you need is a valid ID to prove you are of drinking age and we will bring your wine(s) of choice over.  Just add your address and this site will let you know if you are within the delivery zone.  If you are not, just give us a call and we will do our best to get your wines to your door.

Deliveries are made generally around 7pm daily depending on business volume.  If you are experiencing a wine emergency and need it sooner, just give us a call in the Tasting Room: (916) 329-8229

I ALREADY HAVE A BOTTLE AND WANT TO RECEIVE A DELIVERY, DO I HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE?

No – We will pick up your empty and replace with a new bottle. Just like the old time milkman!

HOW LONG WILL MY WINE LAST?

It depends on how many friends you are drinking with! LOL Seriously – Unopened, the wines should last a week or so before they begin to oxidize. Longer if you put them in the refrigerator! Do note that our wines are meant to be consumed right away. We do not suggest trying to age them extensively in a cellar.  Our wines are bottled from our tap system in the Tasting Room when you order, so they are the freshest possible.

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR GRAPES?

With over 40 years of combined experience and contacts in the CA wine business, we leverage our relationships to find the best sources. Ask anyone behind the bar at Acheson Wine Company about the specific wines on tap today and they will be able to bore your socks off with the details of their provenance.

DOES YOUR WINE CONTAIN SULFITES?

Yes! Sulphur Dioxide is a preservative that is used in the winery prior to keging as well as a natural occurring compound that is created during the fermentation process. We make stable, great tasting, fresh wines. Not using SO2 would put this at risk. Steve is available at the Tasting Room to argue about the natural wine movement and how ignoring centuries of science is just silly. Please come by!

WAIT - SO AM I NOT ALLERGIC TO SULPHUR DIOXIDE?

Probably not. This allergy is actually super rare. What most people are sensitive to are Biostines of which Histamine is the most well known. Lucky for you that as a wine ages in bottle, these compounds increase! Our wines are fresh and have not been in keg long enough for this chemical process to begin to any degree (it takes a few years). So drink up and be merry!

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY WINE?

In a glass with plans to place into a mouth immediately! We make wine to be consumed right away, but if you must know; there are three things which cause wines go bad quick. Sunlight, Vibration and Rapid Change in Temperature. Keep your wines in an interior closet and cover them with a towel – Bam! Instant wine cellar!  (note - on top of the fridge is the worst place ever!)

CAN I BRING BACK BOTTLES FOR A REFUND?

Unfortunately not – Only to be refilled. We encourage our clients to take ownership of the glass and re-use them again and again.  If you find yourself in a position where they are stocking up, give us a call and we will work something out.
