Albarino is the most important white grape of Spain. It origniated in the Rixas Baixas region (the littel square of Spain on top of Portugal) where it still accounts for 90% of all wines made. In California there are only about 300 Acres planted and we found a great vineyard in a cooler part of Lodi to source from.
The grape is noted for small berries (concentrated flavors) and thick skins (high acidity) that resist mold in the foggy coastal region of North West Spain. Here in California, we don't have this issue but rather worry about too much sun! For this reason we harvested ours super early in order to make a classic Albarino with flavors of Peach, Marcona Almonds and Apricot. Touch of green herbs on the finish.
