Acheson goes International!!

Yeah - we have friends everywhere!  While we would love to spin the tale that Steve broke Covid law and travelled in the dead of night to the outskirts of Lisbon Portugal to put this together, that just didn't happen.  He does however have a good friend who is an importer and had some extra wine that Steve wrestled from him.

Wait - Portugal makes table wines?  Yep! 

While the sweet Port from the Douro valley is what they are famous for, the dry table wines are one of those great hidden secrets in the world of wine.  This comes from a vineyard about 50km north of Lisbon that has been makeing wine from their clay/limestone soils for 700 years.  The area is rolling mountains that are in a maritime climate with direct exposure to the atlantic ocean.  Think the Santa Cruz Mountains, but with different soils and grapes.

70% Syrah / 15% Castelão / 15% Touriga National (weird right?)

Touriga National is one of the grapes used in port wine production and brings soft blue fruit character.  Castelão a native grape that has at least 28 synonyms and brings tannic structure.  The Syrah is all about red fruit, spice and black pepper.

Tasting note:  Ruby color with ripe raspberry aromas.  The palate is fresh with notes of plum and blueberry, mild tannins and a persistent finish.
